I am about to get a new kitchen fitted will it be okay to mitre the worktop as iin the same position as the metal joining bar in the old kitchen in the photo, my concerns are that the mitre will be close to the sink is this a problem with water seeping into the join.

Any thoughts please.

sat - are you going to re-use the old sink? If so, does it require a cut-out below the drainer half (some similar to yours do, others similar to yours overlay and don't need a cutout & are retained by machine screws through the w/t). Can you flip the sink so the drainer's on the left (your pic doesn't show taps or blanking cap), reversing the sink will leave an intact section of w/t for your cuts. Can you move the sink position further along the w/t to the left; this should be possible as you're installing a new kitchen (a bit of new plumbing below to reconnect from new position to existing services. New sink (similar to existing)? - ditto above. An inset round sink & separate round drainer might also give you more 'meat' to allow for the join. I'm not greatly taken with round jobs as there's an increased risk of dripping water when transferring crocks from sink, over w/t, to drainer ... but loads of folks have them so maybe they're OK to live with

When you say you want to "mitre" do you mean butt & scribe?
