No, he's absolutely correct. You would fail an MOT, contravene the Construction and Use Regs, and probably die horribly... ( Still, every cloud, & all that...)

All that is correct, but an examiner would (should) refuse to test or abandon it as soon as he saw such stuff
It said nothing about a wood part. Who told you a wood component is unsafe?

I made my own mind up. It's experience and knowledge involved.
A bit like jacking up on a disc. So unsafe it doesn't need any explaining (to anybody with mechanical sense)
