Most cost effective way to heat 250ltr stored water

As said, HW costs are quite small. If you look at the gas meter it might use less than a metre a day in summer.

The biomass boiler is unlikely to affect the gas meter, even if he had one.

In any case it would be registered in cubic metres rather then linear metres.

Hot water for showering is generally around the 43-45deg mark, you wouldn't get in a bath of 60 deg water, with a new build requiring a blending valve anyway (agile-you blend at point of use not source!!!)

If heating the stored water above the usual maximum of 60 C then there should really be a blending valve on the output of the cylinder.

He says he already has one fitted!

The OP chose not to divulge his Biomass until after my post. I don't know why.

I'm pretty sure anybody with a gas meter that measures in cubic metres would know I didn't mean linear metres.

45 mins to heat jacket and cylinder from cold to 75deg.
6min burn to maintain jacket with no loss from cylinder At a sensie stored temp

12/19cylce with cylinder in use.

Blend at point of use not at source due to legionella issues.

We do use a lot of hot water and haven't finished expanding yet.

It's heated by an effecta biomass boiler, 35kw. i think one two hour period to 65 deg will work out the best during water only heat times.

Do you not have a large buffer tank with your biomass system?? Pretty inefficient with a pis.y wee cylinder like that!!

Hi, Its actually very effective as a biomass without a buffer as it's designed that way.

I think I've got it nailed, I've set it to heat up before use in the AM at 68deg C. Set 20 deg setback, so if it goes below 48deg, it just heats it to 55deg. I've had friends over, 4 adult showers in the morning, along with kids sharing a bath in the morning, kids bath in the evening. Worked a treat and seems to use the least pellets like this while providing enough water.

Just to add, its got a blending valve fitted set to 60Deg as Agile said.

JohnD, sorry I didn't state it was a biomass, I was just trying to establish the best way of heating the water.
