Daft question but a helium balloon slowly spinning in the room near a pir sensor will this cause an alarm due to movement.I can't remember if it's heat or movement these sensors detect.

They detect changes in Infra red energy entering the sensor. So, seeing as helium balloons are shiny, I would guess it will trigger the sensor, as it will give the illusion of it changing temperature, even though it isn't.

It will 'show' any temperature differences around the room to the sensor.
