Your router should have a plastic removable base plate on the bottom of it. Take that off and use it as a guide to pilot holes through the work top. Either sink the holes or get yourself some screws long enough to screw back into the holes on the underside of the router foot to pinch it up against the underside of the work top.

if you are just planning on physically securing to the underside it wont work properly anything more than around 6mm thickness will encroach on the cutters maximum plunge or usable area
you can use collet extensions or "router table inserts "
you do not drill holes in the base unless you have no other choice as in you have a router and no access to other materials and this is an emergency
a planned adaption uses other options :D

I didn't fancy the cost of a router table, or router lift. Luckily I have a brother who runs a metal fab shop so I had him laser cut me a 3mm stainless plate to adapt as a router plate and made my own router table.

OP, I would seriously consider spending a bit more time and effort on it as routers are dangerous enough. Please ignore the mess in the attached photo. Garage is in desperate need of a tidy-up.
