I want to move my electricity meter from inside my house to outside. I buy my electricity from Powergen and I live in Oxford so I notionally come in the southern electric area. What is the process for having the meter moved and how much does it cost.

I also have the same question for the gas meter, gas is also bought from Powergen.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

In my experience ring them up at least twice just to make sure you get the same answer - its not always the case - but IMHO at least some DNO's are doing more things for free.

when dealing with the electricity supplier, you are not required to know who owns the Distribution Network, or how to contact them. Just put the request in to your electricity supplier (the company who sends you the bill). It is their respnsibility to deal with you as their customer, and to deal with the numerous other companies involved.

If it's difficult to get your issue handled properly by phone to the Call centre in Mumbai, write a short businesslike letter setting out what you want, and post it to the address on the bill. letters are logged and tracked, they aren't so easy to fob off as phone calls, and it will be passed on until it reaches someone who can help (true).

I was quoted "about "£350" for this unless they need to replace or join any cable in the process in which case it was going to be "around £1000".

My box stayed where it was!!!!!

about £350 to £600 in this area per meter
but the gas one can be moved more cheaply just get freindly with a mcnicholas or murphy engineer they always like to PJ these jobs for a couple of hundred - but i never told you
