Tomorrow I’m going to take the rear wheels off and inspect the plastic gears etc.

should these gears / cogs run dry or should they be greased ?

Thanks.

If you grease the plastic gears they will pick up loads of crap so leave them alone.....they should be made from nylon anyway.
What you need to do is to remove the circlip on the small pinion and pull it clear - taking great care to note any washers, spacers etc.
You'll find some sort of driving peg in there - if its shaped then make sure you keep it the right way round or the machine won't drive forwards
If its a round dowel peg it doesn't matter.
Pack the whole thing with grease and reassemble, once cleaned.
John :)
