Music - Is the original always the best...

Must disagree about the Flying Pickets, I quite like their version as well as Alison Moyets.
I heard the Pickets version about a year ago and it wasn't as bad as I remember but I think I was being nostalgic about that era more than it being good Conny.

Haven't seen the vid from TOTP since it was out, but I remember some bald-headed goof going "boh... boh... boh" and I thought to myself anyone could do that. So it stuck in my head as a naff song soz.

Not everyone, or anyone, could match Noddy's voice. I remember a funny TV prog about him. He said he once went to a professional voice coach and so, quite naturally I expect, the coach asked Noddy to display his style. (I'm actually laughing as I recount this).

So Noddy did the opening to Cum on feel the niose and, as only he can, belted out "BABY BABY BAYeeBEEE!!!" (Why's C.u.m banned ffs?)

The coach just said I cant help you and left  (lmao).

The one which quickly springs to mind is 'Only you' by Alison Moyet which was murdered by The Flying Pickets. (Showing my age a bit). :D

Still not as good as the Platters though.

Better than the originals imo list

Enjoy the silence -Mike Shinoda remix
Hair of the dog -Guns n Roses version
God Gave Rock And Roll To You - Kiss version
The man who sold the world - Nirvana version

I think a lot of it depends on which version you heard first and your age.

Absolutely. Nazerath are one of my all time favourites from the early 70s. They had prolific great songs many would have forgotten and, sadly, you never hear played anymore. (My white bicycle. This flight tonight. Broken down angel... )

So any copy of theirs, as far as I'm concerned, will be second class.

Ooo! You make me recall one they covered GasBod; an absolute great classic! Love hurts.

Thanks for the direction. I'm gunna listen to that one later... :)

Brilliant http://youtu.be/3xJWxPE8G2c.

Also high on my favorits is Light my Fire by The Doors and also Jose Feliciano and a song sung by countless millions, The Star Spangled Banner, but Hendrix version is out of this world..

Hendrix version of The Star Spangled Banner is as ****y as a lot of his live stuff. I'm a huge Hendrix fan but his live stuff didn't half go on some.

I reckon some of the Rod Stewart covers match the originals. Downtown Train (Tom Wait), Have I told you lately (van Morrison).

Johnny Cash - Hurt (by Nine Inch Nails) - Cash now "owns" that song.

Johnny Cash - The Mercy Seat (by Nick Cave) - Cave still has the best version, sorry Johnny.

Vic Reeves & The Wonder Stuff - Dizzy (by Tommy Roe)

Toy Dolls - Nellie the Elephant

I prefer Creedence's "Heard it through the grapevine" to Mavin Gaye's, (I know Smokey Robinson did the original)

I often think it's just what you're used to..

Don Henley's Boys of Summer is good
DJ Sammy's version is worse..
..but The Ataris version is much, much better

Heaven by Bryan Adams.....good song...

but DJ Sammy did a brilliant cover.....especially the candlelight mix :D

And then a couple of guys called the Cut Up Boys, who specialise in running different tunes together, put DJ Sammy's Heaven on top of Kernkraft 400's Zombie Nation, and made something really rather fantastic..

..can't imagine it'll appeal to all tastes here though :)
