This is not technically a DIY question but we had a new Worster Boche Greenstar 30ri installed around 2 weeks ago by a company called Corgi Homeplan. We had boiler cover from Corgi and they said our old boiler needed replacing. Since then when the system is hot and clicks off water pours out of the overflow. The installer came back and said as it was a like for like install he only did the connecting of the new boiler which he said was correct. Part of the original quote was for a survey to be carried out, which the installer did over the phone! When he did come back he said despite us having Hive smart thermostat the boiler was still connected to the old dial room one. Also there was a frost thermostat that wasn't needed as the new boiler had this built it. He basically said we should get these thermostats removed and it wasn't his problem; and to employ and electrician/plumber to tidy everything up.
We called the company to complain and they said the installer said it wasn't their issue.

Is this correct?
Is a phone survey acceptable?
Is there any governing body etc the covers this or are we going to have to go to the small claims courts

Thanks

If it wasn’t doing it before and is doing it now, it’s down to them. Did you pay by credit card? If so, get on to the credit card company.

Forgot to say, if the old wall thermostat is still connected and you have a Hive smart thermostat, the original thermostat needs to be set on maximum. Ideally it should be removed and bridged out.

Yes, it was paid on credit card so can go down that route. Yes, Hive works and did when on the old boiler as the dial is always set to max. But the installer inferred that the system my be getting over ridden by the old controls which is why the pump is forcing the F&E tank to fill and overflow, the old boiler never did this!!! I wondered if there was a trade body that can validate the work done

So it sounds like the installation is defective - before you start charging back credit cards etc. you need to set this out and give them a week to respond. You suggest they send someone else round to diagnose the problem with the installation and if they fail, you will instruct an independent contractor to remedy the deficiency, which you will recover from them.

Lots of template letters/emails about.

AKA - Jay Cartwright - the concern is that this only started with the new boiler, shouldn't that of been checked when he came back out?

My son had a similar problem the day after his boiler was serviced. Something has never been right with the heating system but it’s a rental property and it turned out to be that after the service, the engineer had left the boiler on the max setting and due to the design of the system, it kept overflowing. The servicing engineer tried replacing pipes, replacing the pump and had recommended a powerflush and possibly a re plumbing of the system. Putting the boiler back to 2/3 power setting brought everything back to normal.

Ah typical hero, just knows how to hang a boiler up and do the tightness test but absolutely clueless on diagnostics. Pass the parcel between gas man and sparky, and rightly so sparky won't want to touch it.

Few options - call manufacturer as boiler under warranty and they come sort it

Call gas safe and say it's defective installation and they'll get on to the company who will then act.

Would love to know the action following the credit card company getting involved. Do keep us updated

No, a phone survey is absolutely not acceptable. It is a requirement of Building Regulations that a full room-by-room heat loss calculation is carried out prior to replacing a boiler. That requires each room to be measured (length, width, height), insulation details to be noted, sizes and makeup of windows, and much more. If this wasn't done then they can't sign off the installation as being Building Regs compliant. Gas Safe should in theory help you with getting it put right but they are occasionally a bit reticent to leave their ivory tower if there's not an actual safety issue to deal with. https://www.gassaferegister.co.uk/g...ng-illegal-gas-work/report-gas-work-concerns/
