I've just heard a whisper of the new bridge planned for the mersey. When it's built it will be a toll bridge. As will the existing one after refurbishment I believe.
I know the Severn bridge is a toll bridge, what about the Humber, is that?
Is it only London that has toll free large bridges, if so why?

The QE2 (Dartford crossing) is a toll bridge and toll tunnel. It was promised that once the crossing was paid for, the tolls would stop. Instead, they are still charging and the price has just gone up to £2.00

Well I hope I get a discount, I have travel over it to work.

Luckily, I heard a rumour work will be paying for any employees that have to use it.

They have recently installed average speed cameras on the bridge ( not that you can ever do more than 5mph.

I think the Humber has always been a toll bridge and at one time the most expensive but in recent years the toll has been reduced.
I am all for paying to get away from Hull but to pay to get there, someone is taking the urine!

The bridges are free but of course you have to pay to drive in central london.

The Mersey tunnels were supposed to be toll free once paid for.
We've been paying for the Queensway since about 1934!!!

Humber Bridge has always been a toll bridge. For years it was extortionate, and it got as high as £3 until recently.

Then, the three local authorities came to an agreement to cover some of the cost, and its now £1.50. This was because it was felt that it was impacting on the local economy.

I know some who cycle across and keep their car on the other side, so they avoid the toll.

Unlike the Seven crossing, its a toll both ways.

I used it last week. It never fails to impress

(Prices quoted are for cars. See link for toll history: http://www.humberbridge.co.uk/explore_the_bridge/bridge_history_and_detail/toll_history.php )
