i am replacing a dimmer switch that no longer clicks to the off position when you turn it

the current dimmer fitting is the only switch that operates my Garden light. The garden light has a combined wattage of 400w max

the current dimmer fitted has L1, L2 and C terminals. And connetions of cable is very simple Its only two cables (both Brown) one is connect to L1 and another one is connect to C

So,
The problem is that a new dimmer has got 3 inputs Live, S and Load

I would like to ask you what to do, how can i replace for a new unit

Many Thanks in Advance[/b]

Connect the two browns to live and load. If the switch doesn't work, swap the browns over. The 'S' terminal is only used if you have additional 'S'lave switch(es).

If you have voltage tester, you could test which brown is the permanent live this would go to live side of switch. The load is your garden lights, so the brown gown to the lights would go to load, this is not permanent live (live only when switched)

You did purchase a replacement dimmer that was suitable for the 400w load?

What he did buy was one with a perfectly clear diagram showing how to connect it....
