I am having my loft done and it's gonna be a hip too gable end I wonna build the new gable wall out of 9" blocks is this o.k and what insulation will I need, thinking of insulated plasterboard.... Don't really wonna build out of soild bricks or timber because of cost but I need the u values to get it signed off

I don't think there is any particularly cheap and cheerful way of building a thermally compliant wall no matter what way you build it.

Common sense says build the external skin out of a facing brick as this requires no additional covering or maintenance.

Similarly, building the inner leaf from blockwork is both cheap and cheerful and allows freedom of fixing and is a robust and soundproof way of building. Plus having an inner leaf of masonry means you have a bearing point for purlins etc.

What size cavity do you have on this proposed gable wall?
How old is the building?
