New Install to an old house , advice please

I was at the "meet corgi" in Manchester last week.
The guy from Worcester was there extoling the virtues of solar panels
I asked him what the payback time was for a typical 3/4 bed. detached.
His answer 10-15 years. He said it wasn`t really worth it for nat.gas.

Personally i think all these solar panel/wind turbine installations are over- hyped, possibly a government ploy to be seen to be green. If they where so green then the carbon trust would offer a damn site more than their £400 grant towards installation costs.

I think the CHP package may offer bigger carbon savings but suppose will have to wait and see.

So for the OP if considering solar panels don`t go the nat.gas route.

I think you'll find this has been reduced to £250 since around the beginning of the year and put on a monthly budget that runs out within the first 20mins of the first day of each month

Now I wonder where all the extra emmissions tax on air passengers and 4 x 4 is going
