Hi,

Being a DIYer, I've always carried out my own (basic) electrical work, having done some studying beforehand.

After my last piece of work, a mate said that some new (?) Regs meant that I now need to get certain things either Certified or tested. Can someone point me to a simple version of the Regs so that I can see what I need to do?

Also, as I guess the Government can't really police this, apart from the obvious injury risks, does non-compliance get picked up at house move time by Solicitors asking to see Certificates for any work carried out?

Cheers,
Mike.

"The difficulties that beset the electrical engineer are chiefly internal and invisible, and they can only be effectually guarded against by "testing", or probing with electric currents."

From the Society of Telegraph Engineers' Rules and Regulations for the Prevention of Fire Risks Arising From Electric Lighting - 1882.

Testing and certifictaion is not new. It's been a requirement from the beginning of the wiring regulations.

What's new is that the Building Regulations now cover electrical installations (as they should have done decades ago). Read all about it:
