Good afternoon all,
We have decided to add a new subforum within General Discussion, called Current Affairs & Debate.
The GD forum has always been a mixed bag of posts. Some threads are more serious than others and can, on occasion, become heated and quite divisive.
From feedback we've received over time, we know that some people actively avoid the GD forum because of the heavier threads. So we've decided to try a subforum for those and keep the normal GD a lighter and hopefully more pleasant environment for all.
What lives where?
Threads about politics, world events, religion, immigration, crime and justice, and the big arguments of the day would typically live in the new Current Affairs & Debate forum.
That said, the line between what lives where is flexible. Not every thread will fall neatly into one subforum or the other, and that's fine - the aim is simply to keep the heavier debates from taking over the lighter side of GD.
Whichever subforum a thread is in, please try to keep your replies in the spirit of where it's been posted. If a thread has been started in the lighter side of GD, keep it light - and save the heavier debate for Current Affairs & Debate, where it belongs.
Mods may move threads. If a thread clearly belongs in one forum or the other, or a General thread turns into a full-blown debate, we may shift it across in order to keep both forums working as intended. If a thread is deliberately derailed or dragged into a heavier debate that belongs elsewhere, those posts may be removed.
Please note: this isn't a free-for-all in the new subforum. The normal forum rules still apply across the board, and members are expected to remain civil with one another.
I've locked this thread to keep it clean, but if you've a question or a comment, please send me a private message or an email.
