We welcome all our members to participate in healthy debate and discussion in this forum. However we have seen certain threads degenerate when left without moderation, and as many of you are aware we have started editing/deleting many more posts of late to bring it back to the family based forum of old.

This has been unpopular for some, others have asked for reasons for deletion and others have abused the system by re-posting their deleted posts. We shall endeavour to give reasons for removing material, but this may not always be possible. The rules at the top of the forum index relate to all DIYnot forums and some material in ‘General Chat’ goes beyond the listings. Updates are added from time to time, but it would help to realise that moderators are trying to monitor all forums – we are not gods and like other members make mistakes on occasions - and we hope that our decisions, however frustrating, will be accepted graciously. Discussion is often enhanced by adding pictures to the odd thread, but we do not advocate using some pictures which may be offensive, and contentious material (in our opinion) will be removed without reason. This forum was never intended to be used as a ’chat room’, please keep to the point and discuss issues of interest to all viewing.

The wording in the ‘forum index’ has been altered to avoid confusion in the future. It used to read:

General Chat
Tired after all that DIY? Talk about anything here. All off-topic posts should live here.

But now reads:

General Discussion
Tired after all that DIY? Discuss or debate topical issues here.

Can we try to communicate together in a sensible manner and stop dwelling on past forum events. We (including most viewers) do not want to see endless threads dissecting every sentence written here – there are hopefully more interesting events to discuss, as the vast majority of current posts show. This last week or so has been a learning curve for us all. Let us now look to the future and hopefully see healthy debating continue to thrive here.
