Hi all,

Tiler said we didn’t need to silicone round the toilet and pedestal, or tile to skirting, as it discolours..

Should I just run some white silicone around it all?

TIA

Mark

OP,
After explaining the consequences of using silicone I always gave the customer the choice of silicone or nothing around the base of certain fixtures or skirting.
I would explain that silicone would need maintenance cleaning, & eventually replacement.
I would also explain that the ribbons of silicone that daub so many bathrooms & kitchens were a relatively recent practice.

Using tile grout is also a poor practice given that the grout usually cracks &/or falls out when used as above.
Its interesting that often the more silicone on show the worse the job.

Thanks all.. after your advice I'm of a mind to leave as is.. My worry was water seeping under the fixtures?

I’m 100% with ‘ree’ on this one. If the Silicone bead is not performing a function, then I’ll also ask the customer if he wants it or not, and explain the +’s and -‘
I would never ever grout the Sanitary Ware or skirting.
Your new bathroom looks neat and tidy without pumping in any unnecessary consumables.

Personally I'd always silicone around the toilet pedestal......after a while, 'splash' or other nasties will creep under and cause a smell.
John :)

As above, clear round the pan, stops any nasties/smells hiding under there.

Silicone everywhere for me, it won't look out of place provided the colour is right and it's done neatly. I would question why wouldn't you seal between the floor and the walls/pan on a floor that's likely to get wet.
