200+ UK researchers have expressed their concern at this app. The Government rejected the API Apple and Google provided because they safeguarded users privacy too much by not centralising the data.

So the rest of the world is moving towards the decentralised systems of monitoring and we are moving to a more centralised system. Now where did we move in the opposite direction to the world- of yeah that was it again- herd immunity.
 
While I agree with the concerns. A bunch of academics calling for a study isn’t the answer. In the tech world academia lags innovation massively. It’s not a sector led by universities.

The API is the way to go but there are licensing issues as well as development control issues.

I honestly don’t think it will get much use. It’s human nature for people to want to know who has the lurgy but hide the fact that they have it.
 
Does anyone know the criteria of when possible contact has been made, how long and how close would you need to have been to an infected person before you are given the message that you have to self isolate for 2 weeks?

Would being in the same supermarket be enough, or would you have had to been within 6 feet for more than 20 seconds? and what if I had been masked up could I decline to self isolate?

If I passed a cyclist going in the other direction, or even a car with an infected driver?

Neither me or the wife have a smart phone so can't take part - but even if had I would not wish to sign up if it was likely I had to self isolate in my bed room for two weeks for some highly unlikely scenario.

Im going for less than 30% take up.

On the telly this morning, the health minister said you would be notified if you have been within general 2 metres of somebody for 15 minutes. Id imagine you will be able to decline if you were in full protective suit and gloves at the time, otherwise all ICU Covid doctors would be in isolation too!
 
As usual the UK government does everything too late and believes it is the best at everything.

And why a 'trial run' when one has successfully been run in Iceland.
So successful (along with testing, which hasn't been solved here) that the country effectively came out of lockdown yesterday.

So why don't we adopt their tested and proven app?
Because unlike the system being developed for the UK, it doesn't have a central database!
(created by the team behind the leave campaign. For them privacy and personal data are words that do not exist!)

And of course when the EU/EEA system becomes universal, then since the UK will have a different/non-aligned app it another piece in the isolationalist jigsaw.
Although of course the US will get the data. Now why would they want to access NHS data one wonders? :rolleyes:

Whilst the app is a useful tool for the stated aim, I for one shall not be downloading this piece of spyware!

that sounds reasonable - don't think I have been within 2m of anyone for 2 seconds (apart from the misses) since I got the train down to durham in early feb.

Funny how mottie accuses several people of being in a 'club', and yet relies on members of his 'gang' to carry on 'tedious picking' on his behalf :rolleyes:
 
Who to believe then? Matt Hancock specifically said on Breakfast this morning that the data was not centralised, all data was local on your device... not sure how that works anyway? How do you get an alert?
