Nicotine and covid 19

Why the chuffin ell have that many?

SWMBO went on regular Calais shoppers, so she stocked up on my behalf. It was several months, before she even noticed that I had stopped smoking. I never told anyone I was stopping/ had stopped, I just decided to stop and one bright morning stopped. I didn't expect to stick it out, but I had no problems at all.

Thankfully, I no longer smoke, a couple of stents in the heart arteries persuaded me it was a good time to quite. I do vape however so hopefully I'll benefit from the nicotine intake.
Not that I'm bothered either way, what will be will be.

Smoking is revolting! It baffles me why anybody would want to suck hot smoke into their lungs, not just "now that we know all the health risks", but at any time. The worst thing about it is the disgusting smell that smokers inflict on those around them. I was brought up in a heavy smoking family, and so I must have passively smoked several fags a day for many years during childhood. One good result of my heavy smoking childhood is that it has given me a life-long aversion to smoking. Back then cigarettes were everywhere, the streets were ankle-deep in dimps. Public transport was horrible. That has all disappeared now, thanks to much campaigning and education, BUT, more and more, the far worse smell of Indian Hemp is starting to fill the streets, the buses and the trains. This is a triple blow to the non-smoker, with it being not just a horrible smell but a negation of the years of anti-smoking struggle and a symbol of the failure of the rule of law in the country.

As the elderly are the most likely to die of CV19 maybe the reason smokers are underrepresented in the fatality statistics is because they don't live long enough to get CV19.

It says:

"...the fact that about half of all smokers will die from smoking, and of these, about half will die before or around age 50"

Obviously, smokers will not want to believe that. When belief conflicts with reality, they discard reality.

Smoking is pretty anti-social these day, may be smokers are less likely to catch the lurgy as others generally keep a bigger distance from them. I don't tend to bathe very often, may be for similar reasons to the smokers I will also be less susceptible to the chiese disease.
It's all about keeping away from others and nothing to do with staying at home.

As a lifelong smoker (I gave up about 8 years ago but I vape) I was quite pleased when it was banned from pubs, my wife who has always been a non smoker was more inclined to join me down the pub, and I found it a more pleasant environment without the ashtrays and smell, I was more that happy to pop outside for the occasional ciggy. I find it extraordinary to think back to my youth, going to a cinema and watching the film through a haze of cigarette smoke, trains, buses, smoke everywhere, but in them days, non smokers were the minority.

Perversely, although I am strongly anti-smoking, I regret the ban on smoking in pubs. It led to many closures. Smoking didn't bother me in pubs, whereas it did in peoples' houses and at work. You go to a pub by choice, and smoking was part of the traditional pub from way before my time.

Indeed it seems bizarre now how normal smoking was, would just go into someones house and light up, imagine doing that now, it would be as welcome as taking a pish on the living room carpet. Places must have stunk
I was a heavy smoker for years, about 40 a day until I was about 40. Been stopped nearly 20 years now.
It can't be as harmful as some make out, most folk can smoke a hell of a lot before the harm kicks in. Think I read once most folk can get away with about 250,000 ciggies before the body starts to seriously object.

I remember going to see the doctor and he was smoking, full ash tray on his desk - waiting room full of people smoking. It was the norm, if you met someone who wasn't a smoker you thought them odd. Drink driving was acceptable too, even funny - Strange times - life on mars. Would love to go back and live in that era.

Yes, my doc would smoke and we knew he hit the booze at lunch. We always knew to try and get a morning apt! Everyone smoked everywhere.

Yes, better in pubs but the first gig I went to after the ban was revolting. I hadn't realised how much cig smoke covered up and all I could smell was stale pee, farts and spilled beer.. I wished people still smoked!
