Hi
We have started having problems where we get hot radiators and no hot water when the heating is switched off and hot water is on, my husband gave the pump a bang with a hammer and that seems to have done the trick kind of, but now the pipes are doing some right knocking, could this be the end of the pump or could we have air in the system???
ideas would be very much appreciated :?

I think the answer is obvious, if the pump is sticking it's on the way out.

doesn't sound like a fault with the pump if the rads were coming on wen only the hw was selected.. prob a dodgy motorised valve and now a noisy pump

what type of sys ya got??

Well this might sound really stupid but we are complete novices, and don't know what the system is, I know this isn't any help. The heating does work fine on it's own too, it is just the hot water. I think when he hit the pump it must have knocked the switch in there. I must admit the knocking is really quite loud too, sounds like we've got someone held hostage up there trying to get out lol :?

Post a pic of the valve in the cylinder cupboard with the pump.

Probably got a silver a lid on it, and three pipes.
