should we in england & wales follow the lead of the scotts & free all our bridge's and roads :? or are they taking the p####s knowing we will have to pick up the tab

They never even paid for the Forth Bridge.

Billyo, you need a hobby mate. (other than posting new topics in GD)

The first Severn Bridge opened in 1968 @ a cost of £6 million. It took approximately £70 million is tolls last year alone, I suspect it may have paid for itself.

All roads should have tolls so large that only the filthy rich can afford to use them ... That way I get to speed unhindered

that would be good because you would stand out to all the motorcyclists who will drag you, squealing; from your, err  honda.

That actually makes good sense as the money raised could go into a decent public transport system.

Ahem sorry to disagree here but I believe the Forth Road Bridge paid for itself several years ago, the toll of a pound (return journey) is also the cheapest you would find anywhere. The fact is that it is totally knackered and is in danger of being closed to HGV's etc. in the near future. Corrosion in the cables. So a new Forth Bridge is supposed to be be opened by 2016 to replace the present one.

what if the motorway was a conveyor that ran in the opposite direction and matched your speed?

The forth bridge is a cantilever rail bridge. Doesn't have HGVs or cables.

i thought there was a road bridge too..

be nice now cos the rail bridge wouldnt have tolls and that is what the thread was about.. :)

there is road and rail, couldn't imagine a train stopping for the driver to give his £1

The Forth bridge only carries trains.
The Forth road bridge carries vehicular traffic.
