Noisy oil boiler - pump or motor?

My Worcester Danesmoor 15/19 oil boiler, approx 15 years old, has started to make a high frequency knocking sound which I've traced to the motor or oil pump. Both seem to rotate freely and smoothly enough and the motor and fan spin quietly when removed from the burner. Is there anything else I can do to confirm that the oil pump is the source of this noise? Any help appreciated. Thanks

How about the car mechanic's "stethoscope" method?

Place the handle of a long screwdriver on your ear and touch the suspect item with the steel tip. Any noise will clearly be audible. Don't try this near moving parts!

Thanks Sam. I've already tried this without success. What ever is causing this is resonating throughout the boiler burner and there's no discernable difference no matter where you place the screwdriver. I think I will (reluctantly!) call out an engineer tomorrow. Thanks
