Anyone else get them?

Had my nose courterised twice, but they still come. Can be an hour at a time. :x

I sometimes get them when I've got a heavy cold. I've heard they work like a fuse to stop you getting a bleed in the brain. Have you had your blood pressure checked?

hmm thats rather worrying. i never get them, not even when ive been picking my nose a lot  , but recently ive had quite a few.

a mate of my dads "fuse" didnt work one day as most of the blood in his head shot down his nose one day at breakfast, keeled over dead in front of the wife.

RIP alastair. :(

Hypertension can cause nose bleeds, I would seriously consider getting your BP checked. I have had hypertension for several years and take three tablets a day for it. A couple of months ago I started to get nose bleeds and when I saw the doctor my BP was through the roof.

I too suffer from hypertension, I bought a BP monitor and take about 5 readings a week and enter them in to a spreadsheet and produce a graph for the doc, it gives a better overall picture, very noticable last week I was on holiday and my BP was right down, when I visit the doc it is very high due to "white coat syndrome"

cheers lads, i'll pop and see the doc this week sometime, because i want it sorting now. It was all well and good at school, the odd nose bleed, but i have a job now and this isn't on. Theres gonna be hell on tomorrow i know it. :(

Try to avoid fist shaped objects propelled fiercly at your nose when explaining to people they have nine items in their basket instead of eight.

Do you suffer from hayfever?

I get the very occasional nose bleed when the pollen count is especially high, but even then, it is only normally 3 or 4 times during the season.

do you get enough calcium in your diet?

drink more milk or take calcium supliments..

is the bleeding from the front of the nose or higher up?

whatever the reason, going to your GP is a good idea.. better safe than sorry..

RIP alastair. :(

Alastair Green (i think was his name) was a regular on here, he tragically died in a chainsaw incident a couple of years ago, his missus came on here to let us all know. Apparently he struggled into the kitchen and died in her arms :(

Just brought back the memories.

Ouch. I didn't realise that was the cause of his death. The details weren't made clear at the time. Hope his family are doing ok.

Like yourself, that was the first thing that sprang to mind when reading Nickso's post.

My 11 year old son has such collossal nose bleeds that wherever he has them looks like a murder scene afterwards. He's been to the docs 3 times now and each time they say "nothing to worry about. If it lasts more than 20 mins then worry!"
He plays ice hockey and from memory has only had one nose bleed on the ice in 6 years, doing a sport that will surely raise your BP. Yet he can be sitting in class or at home watching tv when the red tap just opens up full and its like a river of blood.

The docs said they no longer courterise as its not proven to work, yet my friend who is a GP still does use this method.
