Iv just had a inspection from building control for a loft conversion everything ok. We have also installed a bathroom suite on the first floor and the only objection was that the 32mm waste for the sink notched exactly 32mm did not comply. The joist is 8 x 3. BC inspecter wants calculations regarding this.

I personally thought notch upto 2inch is fine but obviously i was wrong.

Is ther any calcs i can do and get the inspecter off my back.
Thanx

holes up to 25% notches 12.5% 1/8th
if the timbers are over specked for the span you may just get away with it hence his question

With anyones experience is 32 mm enough if not whats the way around

Thanx
The BCO will want cacls off someone suitably qualified and insured to provide such calcs!

Someone suitably competent.. and insurance is just a nicety which makes you feel less guilty when you claim against them and dont take their house and car in the deal..

who ever cut out the notches should be aware of what they are doing.

As your building inspector has asked for calculations,he will expect calculations
Some building inspectors have different ideas,i have plumbed many lofts in london and where a waste pipe had to pass through a 200 x 75 joist the only solution accepted was to double up the joists and only drilled holes were allowed.
bc inspection was required before ceilings could be fitted.
