Wanted to plan a train journey between Stockport and Okehampton.

Couldn't get any trains on the on-line planner.

Frustrated, rang the National Rail Enquiries.

After a long wait, was told the station was closed to national passenger services.

Blimey!, I exclaimed. When?

1972, came the reply.

Sure had a lot to answer for!

Now I'm trying to find out the nearest station to Okehampton.... Seems to be Exeter.

That's one heck of a taxi ride!

Some years ago my uncle went to India for a holiday, fancy going on a train ride for touring, got the ticket and waited for the next train, fell asleep on the bench, wake up 40mins later, went back to the ticket office and asked "Any idea when the next train?" 2 days come the reply.

Got a refund!

you were only 6 when it closed then!

that wording suggests it might still be open for excursions or freight, or possibly trains passing through.

Who wants to have a look at the satellite pics?
