Went to assist an acquaintance today with CCTV issue today after they'd had their main router replaced.
Now, I most certainly am not a CCTV expert in any way shape or form.
First issue, there are no manuals, configs or really any other info to go on, just a bunch of kit really.
So, the NVR a uniview, I think seems to be used as a hub for the cameras. Plugged into the uniview box are some PoE ethernet cables and a suspicious free dangling ethernet cable, use not really known.
Also plugged into the uniview box is a WiFi extender, I presume the box has no built in WiFi.
So I guessed (surmised), first issue is the extender will not be communicating with the new router, not unreasonable. Bear in mind there are no passwords or logon details available, so decided a factory reset and a re-sync was in order.
That done, and after an NVR power cycle, 2 of the cameras were displaying pictures on the TV. That would have happened anyway regardless of the WiFi extender re-sync, which I can only assume is there to allow remote viewing.
So, turning my attention to why the 3rd feed was missing, well again I can only assume this is the suspicious dangling ethernet cable, which had been cobbled together by slicing the CCTV ethernet feed together with a properly terminated piece of ethernet cable, using what looked like straight through automotive crimps, very professional, not!
So 2 final things I suppose to sort out, terminate the 3rd CCTV cable properly, and work out how to get remote access working again, which without any details I feel is gonna be impossible.
