unless you know how to set up the boiler properley NO.putting a new pump on without setting various things can cause havoc. hence today spending about 2 hours cleaning a 1 year old boiler due to pump being replaced, and not set up, 2weeks of overheat and a shed load of soot.
if your boilers smoking id also go down the route of protecting all surroundings as the black stuff is a stain that maks wine look clean.also turn the boiler off asap and get it looked at professionally.iv seen a boiler soot up to the the point the baffles had near melted.
