I've just come across an old reel to reel tape recorder, and it has the old style 2 pin plug.
Is it possible to buy an adaptor, to fit into the normal 3 pin plug socket?
I've googled it, but all i can find is the euro adaptors. I'm guessing that wouldn't work.

Any advice appreciated.

You mean a British two pin plug?

Would a shaver adapter do?

Or can you replace the plug?

Ok, i've just got the full scoop from my father. The tape recorder used to sit in an old grundig gramaphone thing, i actually remember it, was the size of a small car. The recorder pluged into an internal socket within the gramaphone case.
The maker of the tape recorder was italian, so i might try the euro adapter, if not, i'll try the shaving adapter. Not holding out my hopes.

Are you sure it is definately rated for direct connection to the mains?

The main unit which used to power this may have contained a transformer which powered the reel to reel.
