Was looking to update the lighting in the spare bedroom, & the shade I want comes complete with pendant fitting. Hadn't really looked at what was there already (had house 7 years) & first impressions weren't great - see photo.
Best guess is that someone wired a new cable into the old cable, maybe through a box of some kind, then stuck some tape over it. there's no screw in rose fitting to easily replace, & no idea of the vintage.
Options are:
1) Investigate the 'cable to a cable', if need be replace with a junction box & hang new light fitting that way (not a heavy light shade, but heavier than current one)
2) Get a professional in to update the fitting.
My wallet says 1, but will go for 2 if it's a safety issue - any views appreciated!
