We just had the water main in the street replaced and when they turned the water back on we had non. They soon found the pipe and connected it then we had water and obviously the toilets filled up first.

Now the ball valve in the bathroom is not closing and the cistern is overflowing back into the pan.

I’m guessing it’s got sand in it from the dig in the street.

Can I open it up and run water through without removing it from the cistern?

It’s this model:

Thanks for any advice :)

Yup, excellent valves ... you can even change just the top part of the valve and stem if it anything there wears, saves having to decouple the toilet.

Just turn off the water and click the lock ring up and the whole top of the valve/stem pulls up and off, just replace in reverse with the new one.
