If you're coming off a lighting circuit, the same size as that (1.0 or 1.5mm).

If you're spurring from the ring main, 1mm with a 3A fuse in the FCU will be fine.

Depending on where the cable will run in the cellar, you might like to consider some mechanical protection for it (conduit or trunking).

cheers mate, hopefully all will go well..........................

I've only just realised that the subject of your Q is "outdoor lighting".

Which part of this will be outside?

if you are doing
existing socket on ring-switched fcu-light then you need to use 2.5mm cable between the socket and the fcu

I'm sure you know, but jic, use 2.5 from ring to FCU.

Yo - I know - can't think of everything

Wherever possible I prefer to put FCUs directly on the ring anyway....

personally i think haveing a FCU as a lightswitch is better than a FCU and seperate light switch

simply because it makes it more obvious that the light is not wired in the normal way
