hi there i have had problems with my laptop for a while i have been informed that i require a new mother board, firstly i do not no what that is plus what is the cost of a new one, or is it worth scrapping the laptop

We can try and advise, but you will have to provide some more information first.

Make, model, age and a description of the problem would be useful at this stage.

Generally, a new motherboard = new laptop, unless it's reasonably new and under warranty or you paid a packet for it and it's just out of warranty.
