Painting exterior render?

Hello

Looking for some advice on how to 'repaint' this patch. I'm not sure if it's a thick textured paint, or the render has a pattern put into it (I'm guessing thick textured paint).

Any advice?

I would want to check the issue that caused the failure has been fixed eg damp.....before painting. Then remove flaky stuff (you might find a lot comes off!). Then post pics of what's left.

Hi Wabbit, thanks for the response. There are a couple of patches, and that picture is after it's been scraped - I'm sure i could get what's remaining off, but it's quite stable.
