Palette wood cladding on block wall - concerned about weight

Hello,

I might be unnecessarily worrying about this, but no experience with how much hanging weight walls can hold. No harm asking.

We want to install reclaimed palette wood across two walls to make them a feature. The room is on the first floor. The boards would be nailed to vertical battens screwed into the wall.

The material of the walls is brick / blockwork (don't know which for sure - whatever was most common in the 1960s). One is an external wall, the other is internal

I've worked out approximately the wood would add 40 kg to the side of each wall (spread out across the entire surface).

Should I be concerned?

So long as the support battens are secure, and spaced evenly, there should be no problem if both walls are brick/block.
If the internal wall sounds hollow, when tapped in various places, it may be a stud wall. This would consist of a wooden framework covered with plasterboard each side and a hollow centre. These would require special fixings for the support battens to clamp to the inside of the plaster board.

You will need to determine what length and diameter you would need, which will depend on the thickness of your batten, the thickness of the plasterboard and a little extra for margin.

Seen it done.
Some radiators are heavier

Much smaller area obviously but did this last year and it hardly weighs anything per m2. Dry pallet wood is pretty light.

What thickness was the palette wood? 5mm?

True. Alongside the various recycled scaff board and osb furniture I’ve done over the years. But the Mrs keeps on specifying it…

It won't be a great idea for fire spread across wall linings either. Maybe a calculated risk for a single room but don't go putting it on your escape route.

The weight is less than adding another sheet of plasterboard , I planed , sanded and stained mine and finishing with danish oil .Just pinned to studs.
