Smart meter can be remotely switched to pre-pay with no external oversight. That’s not true for a conventional meter.

Get a little in debt and they will remotely swap the customer to pre payment.

They can’t do that with a standard meter.

Even a builder must be able to grasp that ?

Isn't physically, going to a shop, just one of the range of methods of topping up? I understand there are other ways, via a phone or PC.

We used to get them lying about losing their top up cards so that we would reissue card and stick on the 4 quid emergency credit..unfortunately it was 7 quid to reissue a card at the time and was added to their debt. A few used to do it at least once a month

It matters not. The power company won't just arbitrarily switch either meter. It makes no odds which one you have, in that respect.

Saying things like "you do realise they can switch remotely" is irrelevant. The power company must follow the same strict pre-switch guidelines for both meters

Quite. Just pointing out that people are just saying lots of stuff with no evidence.

There are more smart than dumb meters across the UK now as people embrace new technologies. Some will always be stuck in the past.
