Part P course or Domestic Electrician, any advice hugely appreciated

Note - "Special locations" has different definitions in The Wiring Regulations and The Building Regulations.
As you say, life is full of confusions!

However, to the best of my knowledge, unlike the latter (Building Regs) the former (BS7671) does not explicitly define "Special Location". Part 7 of BS7671 (comprising Sections 700 - 753) is entitled "Special Installations or Locations", but that does not help one to know which (of the situations addressed in Sections 700-753) they are regarding as 'Special installations' and which as 'Special locations'.

I would think that in BS7671 a special location is the location where any part of a special installation applies.

E.g. the supplementary bonding regulations apply to the room containing a bath or shower.

What you think is probably the intention, but that doesn't alter the fact that BS7671 does not define "special location" (nor, indeed, does it define "special installation", upon which your 'thinking' relies).

One doesn't really need to 'think' about that one, since that reg (701.415.2) states explicitly that they relate to "a room containing a bath or shower" - and, in any event, nowhere does that reg even mention "special location" or "special installation", so I would say that it's not really a very good "E.g." :)

That within Section 7.

I presume you mean Part 7 (Sections 700 - 753).

However, Part 7 is entitled "Special Installations or Locations", without indicating which are which - and your 'thinking' utilised "special installation" to define "special location" - so I think that it becomes a bit of a circular argument!

Yes, sorry.

I think 'and' would be better.

Are you trying to get to a place where BS7671 is not different than The Building Regulations?

So do I, but it isn't :)

Not really. I was just a bit confused by the fact that your suggestion as to the intended meaning of one term not defined in BS7671 made use of another term not defined in BS7671 :)
