My PC started an irritating habit. When in word or e-mail, you type some words and they don’t appear on the screen. It’s like the PC thinking about processing what you put.

Then about 10 seconds later only half of what you type appears and the PC bleeps. Do you know what this could be, is it something to do with RAM? It’s just I am a fast typer & it’s getting annoying having to stop and keep going back.

This could be a few things to be honest. What's the spec of the machine you are using? What other applications are running at the same time (any virus scanners etc?)?

EddieM

Something is chewing the processor. press ctrl alt delete and start task manager to see what's slugging the CPU.

I am having the same problem.
I've pressed control,alt/delete and started the task manager, but to be honest I'm not sure what I'm looking for.
This typed quite satisfactory but seems to get worse as the day goes on.
Any help appreciated
P.S I have anti-virus and anti-spyware in place as I thought I might be getting a bug?

After starting task manager, click on the "Processors" tab. then on the CPU column once or twice to sort them into usage order, highest at the top.

Tell us what the top few are, and what %age of CPU they are using.

Then click on the "Mem Usage Column" and tell us what the top few are, and what mem they are using.

Also tell us what Antivirus, Antispam and Antspyware packages you use, when you last ran them, and when you last cleared out your internet cache.

Depending upon which version of Word you have installed:

In Word, check under Tools/Preferences/Save to make sure that the Allow Fast Saves feature is NOT checked.

If Word in 2003, Tools > Options > Save tab and make sure that the Allow Fast Saves feature is NOT checked.

In CD srv.exe SYSTEM 01

MEM Usage
System SYSTEM 51492K
Ms Mp Eng.exe SYSTEM 38156K
Skype.exe Leslie 31240K
avgrsx.exe SYSTEM 51492K
svehost exe. SYSTEM27484K

I have AntiSpyWare Bot.

my "System SYSTEM" runs at 0 CPU 252K Mem

so I don't know what is going on with yours as it is so high, but hopefully someone else will. If it was one of the things I recognise I might have had some suggs. Do you know if "Fastfind" is turned off? I remember it used to keep one of my machines busy, but I tuned it off long ago. I'm sorry I can't remember how.

good luck!

Hi JohnD
Thanks for trying to help
Is it possible I have too many anti spyware and anti virus running?
Also what did you mean when you asked when I last cleared out my internet cache?
How do you do that?
Kind Regards

boxes ticked are:-

preserve favourite website data
temporary internet files
cookies
history

Boxes not ticked are:-

form data
passwords
InPrivate filtering data

Do I now click the delete button at the bottom?

Download Hijackthis from here. Download the executable to your desktop and run it. Click "Do a system scan and save log file" and when the notepad opens up copy and paste all of it on here. Dont do anything else with it.
