…..despite them freezing them for 7 years.
So what has Labour done?
Reduced them? Nah.
Done away with them? Nah
They’ve put them up! That’s what Labour have done! You couldn’t make it up, could you?

"Prime Minister Keir Starmer had said he wanted to abolish tuition fees altogether when he ran for the leadership of the Labour Party in 2020".

We don't have the money available to do that. So question if we did then? Not enough in Con/Lib days either.

Why an increase - a drop in overseas students who pay 3x as much. That has caused some uni serious problems as they have / intended to borrow to expand. Others just a drop in funding.

The loans have been increased as well. Suspect you can guess why.

There will now be a further period of negotiations with the uni's.

Meanwhile the cost of everything else (hence the cost of providing the tuition) is going up, so it effectively kneecaps the universities' abilities to deliver the education. Incredibly short sighted, and the HE sector may well be the next thing headed for bailout

They’ve put them up!

Yeah by the rate of inflation this year, so 3% or something (about 300 quid? Drop in the ocean), totally glossing over the interim years when inflation was crazy high and universities had to try and stay afloat with no extra money coming in

That’s what Labour have done!
It's too little, very late. If tuition fees had been allowed to rise in line with inflation they'd probably be around 12 grand now, and there wouldn't be universities left right and centre genuinely concerned that they're going to the wall

I've family that work for university finance departments; your exasperation is completely ignorant of the other side of the fence I'm afraid

I guess you missed my point.

Oh, you're making a point that a politician made promises to curry favour with the voting populace that they then didn't keep when they got into high office?

That does seem unusual and surprising! There ought to be some sort of way of holding them accountable to discourage it from happening again :D

There are a number of UK universities on the brink of going bust. Weighed down by there pension liabilities

Increasing the charges was always going to happen BUT charging RPI plus 6% interest for the maintenance loans is something that needs reducing as the vast majority of students aren’t even keeping up with covering the interest, let alone paying back any capital

so what percentage would you say zero to 1000 quid is
And then 1000 to 3250 ?
Tories increased tuition fees by £18,000 over 3 years
Labour just put up tuition fees by £300 over 3 years

You do the math

That was before the Conservatives totally f****d the economy.

He’s 5 years old. He can’t do maths that can’t be done on fingers.
Calm down there’s a good chap

Labour just put up tuition fees by £300 over 3 years
