please could someone tell me what is the hourly rate for a plumber is (roughly)

mcdommo, I noticed you posted a reply in my 'Apprenticeship' thread.
Believe me, if you are an Apprentice, you would be on minumum wage for two years and not start earning any half decent money until 4 years is up.
The thing to remember here is the training, once trained up you can earn a very good living, provided you are good at your job, I know people that are willing to work for nothing just to get the experiance.

during the second world war, with the lack of home based tradesmen due to the conscription, engineers "mates" or plumbers "mates" were upgraded to engineers or plumbers.
there is a saying in Glasgow, when referencing a particularly bad piece of plumbing or engineering "aye, he used tae grease the chains oan the Renfrew Ferry!!!"
Get the council to send you an application form, they specialise in doing that kind of thing.
