Petrol seekers are mortified

Just read this on the BBC news page and can't believe people can mistake this for a fuel tanker!
Even young children with toy cars know what a fuel tanker looks like FFS!

Typical beeb nonfactual nonsense, no it wasn't carrying 44 tonnes of mortor, nothing like that at all, more like 21 - 22 tonnes of payload, the 44t is the gross weight of the vehicle. In another story a beeb reporter outside a filling station was claiming a tanker was delivery 44,000 gallon of petrol - if they are getting such basic facts so widely wrong, I start to suspect the rest of the news is probably utter bolluxs as well.

Unfortunately the beeb like the rest of the media just exaggerate and sensationalise everything to grab attention, facts are immaterial

The fact that was being reported was that motorists followed the tanker thinking it was carrying fuel.

Maybe the BBC got a few things wrong but they did show the stupidity / greed / ignorance of those motorists.

The average UK driver does 140 miles a week. The number of tankers we have is just enough to supply this amount of fuel. The average car probably has enough fuel to drive 400 miles. So overall cars have around 2.5 weeks of fuel capacity.

If before shortages people had half a tank on average but now they are worried that there isn't enough fuel the average is aiming to have three quarters, then that's around half a week of fuel deliveries, on top of normal supply, to catch up on.

That's going to take time, even if the tankers are boosting supply with readymix.

Commercial vehicles should be prioritised

Apart from a few exceptions ?? Every one else can go and do one

:ROFLMAO:

I could drive an HGV

providing there was no complicated reversing

indeed, as I noted in another thread, there are 36 million cars on our roads, if the average tank now has 1 extra gallon in it to normal then thats 133,000 ton of fuel, or 6000 tanker loads - easy to see why there is a shortage.

Yes, but why does a broadcaster with apparently the highest standards of reporting getting go many facts so wildly wrong, can any the story be believed, was there really 20 cars following the tanker or was their just 2 ?
