Often pictures get posted on DIYnot in the wrong orientation, usually 90 degrees out.

This annoys the f@@k out of me.

I am unwilling to turn my monitor with its attached cables through 90° to accommodate.
(I guess tablet or phone users may find this easier)

1) why does this happen?
2) any way I can copy an image and rotate it ?
3) is there any way that posters can get their images the right way up?
4) is this an iphone thing or is it common to all phones and cameras?

How you taking pictures?
If you use a phone or tablet turn the screen rotation lock off.
Other way is to open photo in a gallery. Rotate so it's wrong and save then rotate back so it's correct and save again. That will add or correct the EXIF data...Exchangeable Image File Format

Others are reporting similar https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/photos-coming-out-sideways.653681/

Right mouse click image... Select <edit> and rotate picture within the editor (works on Win11 Edge, other OS and browsers may differ).

But the OP should be alerted to get it right... via @<name> (and ideally use the <Preview> feature before hitting <Post> to check it looks correct. Unless it is a foible of the forum software for some OS used by members posting...?
