Pipe bender or elbows. Which is best?

If you do the sums you find that the differences between the two are insignificant in most situations. The people with the strongest prejudices are usually the ones with the least idea how to do the sums and use the results!

I don't employ installers who don't use a bender......

heard they don't learn bending anymore, you may have a problem finding staff if that is true :D :D

not being funny, do you really think there is a measurable technical advantage to bends?

As I understand it, a bend = 300mm of strait pipe resistance and an elbow = 500mm, so there is definately a big advantage to bends.

That is for methane at 0.02 bar. I would hazard a guess that aerodynamics at 0.02 bar are different from liquid flow conditions at 5 bar.

It is also dependant on the flow speed, if the gas or liquid is flowing under transitional conditions, you will find that the figures alter drastically from those for laminar flow

How to finish a thread, use long words no-one understands and don't dare challenge!

if your pipe design is fussy about a few 200mm lengths of pipe, you're doing it all wrong.

What do you think the head loss is in that length of pipe at domestic flow rates actually is?
Any decent plumber can find it, by the way.

I piped a plant room using bends and sets. Had to re-do the whole plant with elbows cos the laggers cant lag bends.Never again.

Why didn't you lag the bends yourself with Armaflex ?.
A few minutes per bend at most.

Our old firm employed a company to lagg and label all pipework in either foil wrapped insulation or metal sheathed insulation.

As a company now we still use other contractors for lagging unless in domestic situations.
