Hi, could someone help me with this?

I have a junction box with L and N, 2 or 3 core cable available, my lamp is a 12v spotlight with L and N wires coming from the transformer.

Proper idiots guide needed!!

Thanks.

1. That L in your junction box.. It needs to be a permanent live. If it is feeding the transformer, then it is probably a switched live, which is no good for the PIR. The PIR needs a permananent live and neutral. These will be up in the ceiling, somewhere. You may need a test meter to confirm you have the right connections.
2. That circle with the cross in it. Thats your light and transformer. the transformer wires go between the A√ and N wires

Thanks. It's permanent live in the JB - fed from an adjacent fitting, I've disconnected the existing switch circuit and the light transformer to make it easier for me! So is it just:

Permanent live from JB to L on sensor, Neutral from JB to N on sensor and N on transformer and connect A from sensor to L on transformer?

Thanks that's great, all connected and it works!! Really appreciated.

Please let us know how long it is before you have been driven to a sufficient level of madness by it that you remove it and go back to having a switch.

It is partly an experiment! The situation I have is a room within a room within a room - WC at the end of a utility "cupboard" within the dining room (we will be removing doorway 1 in the future but at the moment it's 3 lights to turn on and off to use the WC) now reduced to 2.

I will feedback how it works in practice and have left the old switch and cable in place!

Ah - the old "sitting on the loo waving your arms about to make the light come back on" scenario.

;)

No, I've been there - loo definately has a proper switch it's just the utility you have to pass through that has a pir.

I think I'd have been tempted to just have the utility & WC on one switch if I was that bothered about having only 2 instead of 3.

As an aside (mainly for anyone else contemplating a similar requirement) ...

.... whilst I'm generally a definite non-lover of indoor PIR-controlled lights (been there, done that, been driven mad and eventually removed them!), there are a few places in my house where people were sometimes having difficulty in finding switches for hall/landings lights when it was pitch dark. Rather than fiddle around with wiring, I bought a few cheapo PIR-controlled battery-powered LED lights (with daylight sensors). Each one cost about £5 or less and uses a couple of AAA batteries, which last about 6 months or so, and do the job admirably, with minimal effort ...
