hi,i had a problem with security light ,kept switching on all the time because it was close to boiler flue.i have decided to put separate stand alone pir well away from boiler flue and put head only at its current place.can somebody tell me how to wire pir sensor.cerrent set up was built in pir light and control from inside switch.outside there is water proof box fitted and light was gettig switched power through there.stand alone sensor seems to have 2 L terminals.any help is apriciated.thanks

Well, just follow the instructions that came with the PIR.
Basically you'll need a cable with live, neutral and earth going to the PIR and a cable with the switched live and neutral going to the light.
You may be able to use 3-core and earth cable but note it must be in conduit or suitable for outside uses.
You may notice that one on the L terminals in the PIR is actually L'
That will be the switch live output.

as i mentioned earlier i have water proof junction box outside .it has 4 terminal connecter in it.old light connected through through connecter.it does not have permanent live because it was through switch inside.how do i go from there.
When TTC talked about 'permanent live' he meant 'permanent provided that the inside switch it switched on' - he said that to distingish is from the live switched by the PIR.
The standalone PIR needs to be wired between the waterproof junction box and the lamp head, in the manner TTC described.

Move the whole light, will be easier for you.
Since that's obviously the simplest solution, I had assumed that the OP had considered and rejected it - i.e. wants the actual light to remain where it is. I have a very similar situation, and dealt with it in the manner the OP is proposing.

Just seems he is struggling to work out the concept of the switched live.
Also will the existing PIR also be the controller to use the override "switching" from inside?
If so will his new one work the same.

Well, yes, that's effectively the question that was initially asked.
Exactly. If he simply adds a standalone PIR between the 'inside switch' and the lamp of the existing PIR/lamp, he should have exactly the same functionality as at present.

thanks john.i have got the idea now. you are right i was getting confused between live and sw live.all sorted now.
