Planning an attack?

how on earth do you plan an attack on the scale of 9/11?

first you need to get 4 (or more) people to learn how to fly an airliner... no small task... then to pick planes in the region of NY within an hour of each other, looking at the thousands of flights that take place... and then to get 19 like minded people, i.e. tough enough to take over a plane full of 300 people, and carry knives and stab people and be prepared to die...

it's all insane...

Sometimes I nearly verge on admiring the audacity, but not for long. This was a disgraceful act of indiscriminant murder of civilians. The level of misguided use of "intellect" in the organisation and carrying out of the atrocity is appalling.

if you take away the evil, and discount the US doing it themselves, it is a huge accomplishment to coordinate such an attack...

i must state i'm completely oppsed to the people that commited such heinous crimes

Guy standing infront of you with a kiddy stanley knife . You would just give him a ****ing hiding and stick it up his arse

Skim read wikipedia, and it does leave a fair old few "what if's" mulling around one's head with relation to conspiracies.

Such an extensive and indeed expensive affair such as 9/11 seems a mit of an overkill to start a war against, well, who ultimately :? Are al'quaida, Afghanistan, Iraq all just preambles before the main event?

its completletly wrong to give them any credit
they do NOT speak for any religious group
they are fanatical evil people without any moral boundaries
they are no more connected to religion than me as an atheist
they do not help there cause any more than the west invading there lands or avoiding human rights with quantanimo bay or summery executions without trial or the gun ho attitude off the american military

Maybe as fundamentalists, they read the K'oran literally, so an eye for an eye, anyone that doesn't follow this religion must be killed,

parts are still taken literally, a woman was injured when acid was thrown over her? And the punishment was to blind the man???

So when the Bible bashers come knocking on the door, go away. Why can you believe in stuff, and fast, and you have to prey to the East etc...All reglion is built on stupidity. Glad that Henry VIII got rid of most of it.

I feel bad that lots of people in the East show their bums to me on a ritual basis. But get over yourselves!

I used to work in a church, as a choirboy, and some of the sermons, it was just total propaganda. I presume the same happens in a Mosque? However Christians invaded the arab world, and killed lots of people during the Crusades, so, I expect they are a bit angry?

War Plan Red, also known as the Atlantic Strategic War Plan, was a plan for the United States to make war with Great Britain (the "Red" forces). It was developed by the United States Army during the mid 1920s, approved in May 1930 by the Secretary of War and the Secretary of Navy, updated in 1934–35, and officially withdrawn in 1939, following the outbreak of the Second World War, when it and others like it were replaced by the five "Rainbow" plans created to deal with the Axis threat. However, it was not declassified until 1974.

The war was intended to be a continental war, waged primarily on North American territory between the United States and the British Empire. The assumption was that Canada would represent the primary theater of operations.

If you look at the 9/11 operation dispassionately, then it has to be considered as a very successful and well planned operation

Likewise, the common phrases such as "indiscriminate murder of 3000 civilians/innocent people" does not sit too well in context of certain US military operations

I'm not agreeing with it, but it has to be viewed in context to the "war", beliefs and means of the two combatants

I am sure that there was some gratitude in certain parts of the US government and military as it brought to light massive deficiencies in all their planning, response and command and control structure - which again are indications of a successful military operation by al-Qaeda

If they could do it once , and they are still at war to this day , why has it not happened again? I mean really?
Answer,
Because they were never capable of it in the first place.

Does that not make sense?

They are just Afghan farmers and villagers, they could not pull off 9/11.

So the entire nations we are talking about are just farmers.

You generally make some valid comments. Must be having an off day I assume.

why has it not happened again?

Because it was so successful and achieved its immediate aims

- demonstrated the collective power and ability of a small group of people to attack their larger more powerful enemy

- motivated more people to their cause

- succeeded in terrorising the west - with implications and loss of our general freedom and heighten security status ever since

to name but a few

The operation was successful, and its not the type of campaign which needs a similar attack every year

An added bonus for al-Quada was the inept reaction by the US and their allied countries, in that the "war on terror" is perceived as a "war on Islam" and has prolonged the fallout and made the problem worse in uniting people against certain western countries

Al Qaeda shot themselves in the foot. The vast majority of MODERATE Muslims were shocked at what happened and Al Qaeda is now at a low ebb everywhere having been thoroughly discredited and its main executives either killed or arrested.

The only exception would seem to be Nigeria where Boko Haram have all but shut down some northern cities like Maiduguri and committed some atrocities, but that's because the Muslim northerners are unhappy that Goodluck Jonathan the president is a Christian and an Igbo to boot.

I think you are confusing the scale of the attack itself with the scale of the death and destruction it caused.

Learning to fly an airliner - not difficult if you have the money and, don't forget, they weren't interested in learning how to take-off and land (the most difficult part)

Most people can work out flight timetables.

19 like-minded people - there are plenty of islamic brain-washed morons prepared to kill and die for their 'cause'.

Tough - hardly, they just told the passengers they had a bomb on board and were returning to the airport to ensure compliance. The passengers had no reason whatsoever to suspect that their planes would end up where they did.
