I’ve had fun chasing a wall to relocate a light switch. First time I’ve done that. I had to chase up behind the coving and used a long drill bit and my makita combi drill. Lots of dust everywhere.

Now the chuck feels gritty and stiff to turn, and the selector switch is very stiff to move. Drill works fine and trigger was unaffected.

How can I clean the debris from my drill (dhp480)? Blast it out with compressed air? Or do I need to disassemble it?

Compressed air is great for this, especially if the drill end cap comes off.
Blast from every direction you can and you’ll be amazed what comes out!
As for the chuck, give it a good drench of wd40 and hold the drill downwards, opening and closing the chuck under power until it frees off.
