Just something that occured to me, the plug top is surely the thing that comes off, is it not??

It's a plug.
It goes into a socket.

Those who refer to items such as 'plug top' 'plug socket' and other such rubbish are morons who should be ignored.

A lot of people do use these silly names. But it is a matter of fact that 50% of the UK population is of below average intelligence.

The behaviour of those below average intelligence has more adverse impact and is therefore more noticable than the behaviour of those with above average intelligence. So it just seems there are more of the less than average,.

I am being pedantic after a tough day.

The vast majority of people have a higher than average number of legs that people have.

I doubt there are enough Jake the Pegs ( Rolf Harris at Christmas anyone ? ) to swing the statistics.

I call it a plug, but then I'm not an electrician.

Electricians probably call it a BS1363 (or a BS1363 top)!
