A plumber cut a hole in my cast iron drain pipe to solve a problem where the gutters above my back door overflowed whenever there was heavy rain. He used this newly made hole as an access point to pressure wash the pipe and the secondary pipe from the bathroom. He claimed that a lot of gunk came out. I'm afraid that nearly everything about the experience was dodgy, from him using my garden hose to making this hole in my previously unblemished 75 year old pipe. I'm also not particularly happy with his patch, although he claims that it should last for 30 years, although later claimed that it would pop if there was pressure build up. As it turns out this fix didn't solve the problem at all. He said that as the pipes were clear the problem would be with the gutters themselves so I called out a roofer who solved the problem right away. The connecting pipe leading from the gutters to the drainpipe was clogged as the guys who fitted the gutters used two long screws to secure it in place which apparently according to the roofer were not even needed as it should fit without this. The two long screws acted as a block with gunk and debris forming around it. This was a very simple problem to fix and the plumber was completely negligent in not climbing a ladder and inspecting the gutters and the connection. I sadly agreed to the initial hole in the pipe being made as my brain wasn't entirely engaged at the time. I should add that him cutting into the drain pipe caused a lot of mess and damage, including staining my coping stones and back step orange from the rust and splattering my back door plus damaging paint work. As well as looking if possible for my money back I'm wanting to see if there maybe a better fix for this hole. Is this a legitimate patch, or would I be better off with a welded fix or even a replacement section of cast iron piping or something else? I have had a quote from a mobile welder which is a couple of hundred pounds and another from a plumber for a cast iron section of piping with a door for over £500 which is pretty pricey. Here's a pic of the patch:
