Plumber has been, few questions - Help needed please

There's a brown wire in with the grey, see if you can find where the other end is.

The Cylinder Stat one would think

Matt

Hopefully yes, then the OP just needs a wire from the grey to 1 in the programmer.

In one of the pics there's blue not used in a connector, it may be something to do with that. needs a spark perhaps.

Yup, having reviewed my wiring and the Y plan diagram I am pretty sure I am missing the HW off wire which should be in with the Grey wire of the Hot water off mid position valve and the brown tank stat wire 2

So I need a wire going from terminal 1 of the programmer to the block with the Grey and Brown wire with it and hopefully this should fix my issues.

It would certainly explain the bubbling from the tank as the programmer nor the stat has been able to turn off the HW so it must have been getting really really hot and using a lot of electric!

It sounds as though you also req a new cylinder stat too (inexpensive 8) )
The 'hotwater off' cable from the programmer that you are missing only enables you to have central heating without the hotwater selected, it would have no baring on the temperature of your hot water in the cylinder, only the cylinder stat does that.

Ps you will be using more gas than electricity

Thank you everyone!
The installation of a extra wire has meant no need for a new mid position valve and the system works perfectly now!

Just got to have the slightly weepy radiator valves (like the one in the picture) sorted and the system is set for another year or two

You are all excellent and have been brill, thank you! :D
