Plumbing in a dishwasher with washing machine

Hi all,

I'm considering buying a dishwasher shortly.

I was wondering whether it is possible to use the same cold supply and waste outlet as my existing washing machine does (tee/branch connections?)? Is this considered bad practice and are there any potential pitfalls, e.g. backflow into the other appliance when one is in use?
